Ooh, I feel so good, like I knew I would, ooh, I feel so good.

"Ooh, I feel so good, like I knew I would, ooh, I feel so good."

Where did this pre-show theatrical tradition come from?

  4. No idea either but with at my theater the entire company does a super-charged "ooh I" before the show. Not just the actors, but the director, techies, ushers, even the producer joins in. The typical format is as follows:

    Lead Actor: I said a 5, a 6, a 5,6,7,8!

Cast: Ooh, I feel so good, like (like what?) I knew I would, ooh I feel so good!

    Lead Actor: Everybody, Everybody!

Company: Ooh, I feel so good, like (like what?) I knew I would, ooh I feel so good!

Lead Actor: Just the techies, just the techies!

Techies: Ooh, I feel so good, like

    Everyone Else: Like what?

Techies: I knew I would, ooh I feel so good!

The lead actor continues to call it, either naming a group or individual (just the band, just ushers, just the band) for a good while, with the named groups doing the main portion and everyone else asking "like what?". At the end, he calls "and a little bit softer now" a few times until everyone is whispering after "and now the softest", which rapidly rises back to full volume on the last call of "ooh I feel so good!" The final call is "touch the ceiling, touch the ceiling!" for the loudest and jumping-est round, which is followed by a shakedown.
